The Position:
Under the general supervision of the President, plan, organize, and direct a comprehensive student services program at a large college.

Areas of responsibility include Student Development such as counseling, admissions, registration, veterans certification, student health and matriculation services, Outreach, Promise, TRIO Upward Bound, and Student Affairs such as student government, job placement, student grievance, and college disciplinary process. The incumbent may act as chief administrative officer for the college in the absence of the President, as assigned.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Administer a comprehensive student services program and its related departments; direct the implementation of new programs and services; evaluate and recommend revision of college policies and procedures.
  • Select, supervise, and evaluate student services personnel which may include both credentialed counseling and classified employees; assign to staff duties and responsibilities, work schedules and work locations in accordance with established District policy; plan and coordinate orientation and in-service education for professional development of assigned staff.
  • Conduct appropriate processes related to student discipline, student grievance, and due process; coordinate and facilitate the resolution of student, instructor, and staff conflicts, complaints, and grievances.
  • Develop and prioritize annual budget recommendations for all student services departments; monitor and control assigned program operating budgets; initiate special fund requests.
  • Establish goals and objectives for the division; initiate and participate in program planning; assess needs for programs and services; facilitate their development and implementation in accordance with established guidelines and budgets.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the college graduation program and the articulation program of the college with secondary schools, other colleges and the community.
  • Encourage research and development projects by staff to develop innovation and/or improve techniques for providing services to students.
  • Coordinate division activities in cooperation with other college and district personnel in the development and implementation of the student services program.
  • Serve as a member of District, site, or other committees and task forces; maintain liaison with other site and District administration to assure proper coordination of activities; promote sharing of ideas and communication of successful operating practices with others in similar positions inside and outside of the District.
  • Represent the District and participate at the local, state and national levels in organizations and activities that improve promote, and publicize District instructional and student services programs.
  • Coordinate and direct special projects as assigned; initiate studies and conduct analyses as necessary to determine the need for new or modified course offerings, programs, or services.
  • Prepare reports and make presentations as necessary, assure the preparation, distribution and maintenance of required reports, records, and files.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Develop and direct delivery systems and implementation procedures for student services programs and services.

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: Masters degree from an accredited institution in an area related to education or student services AND substantial recent, full-time experience in the administration of one or more of these areas in an institution of higher learning OR possession of current California Community College Supervisor Credential OR the equivalent.
Both of the following: (a) Masters degree; AND (b) One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators administrative assignment

Desired Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years full-time administrative experience at a division dean/department chair level or higher, preferably in Student Services. Administrative experience in and demonstrated advocacy for Student Services.
  • Leadership experience in a collegial participatory governance setting.
  • Experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience resolving issues of student discipline, student grievance, and student sexual harassment (Title IX).
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with the assessment of student learning outcomes;
  • Experience with strategic planning and implementation, resource development and allocation, personnel and faculty development, management, and initiation of change;
  • Experience with creating inclusive and diverse campus cultures and promoting lifelong learning, social justice advocacy, and information technology literacy
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and apply laws, rules and regulations concerning Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as well as other state laws and district policies relating to sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, gender and interpersonal violence, and sexual assault.


Licenses:
Valid California drivers license; California Community College Supervisory Credential.

Pay Information:
Range 20 ($10,927.64-$17,784.93) per month based on the current Management Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the Management Employees Handbook. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
