The Position:
The San Diego Community College District is accepting applications for a Continuing Education Instructor, Non-Credit/FLEX and Professional Development Coordinator, 100%, 11-month assignment. The current vacancy exists at ECC; however, applicants should understand that they may be assigned to any Continuing Education campus. Assignment may include day, evening, weekend hours, and/or off-campus responsibilities. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs. (This may be a split assignment between several campuses.)

Continuing Education campuses offer adults the opportunity to renew their learning experiences through noncredit vocational, basic skills, life skills and enrichment classes throughout the city of San Diego.

Major Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Continuing Education Instructor, Non-Credit/FLEX and Professional Development Coordinator provides coordination, programing, and support for campus Flex and institution-wide professional development. The Flex and Professional Development Coordinator will provide direction for instructional curriculum development needs and opportunities to foster equity and excellence in teaching and learning; develop training materials; arrange professional development workshops and evaluate them; identify training consultants and conduct on-campus training; identify conferences for faculty/staff to attend to support grant activities; and, conduct training needs assessments to determine optimal scheduling and participation and satisfaction rates.

This position facilitates SDCCEs Flex Day professional development for faculty and staff and the S.T.A.R. conference for classified professionals. The Flex and Professional Development Coordinator serves on and/or chairs committees that have a professional development component as assigned. This position integrates Flex Day, S.T.A.R., and other professional development with strategic planning objectives, and leads the development and implementation of professional development goals, objectives, and priorities for assigned operations and activities in supporting faculty, classified professionals, supervisors, and managers to meet the mission, equity and student success goals of the college.

The Flex and Professional Development Coordinator will be responsible for leading the planning, coordinating, and promotion of SDCCEs professional learning for all employees. As part of these duties the coordinator will:
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of a Continuing Education instructor in accordance with the Continuing Education Instructor Classification Description
  • Manage professional learning resources (including budgets, supplies, technologies, and activities)
  • Provide guidance and assessment to programs and initiatives requesting assistance with training and workshops
  • Research, develop, implement, track and assess professional learning activities for all campus employees
  • Foster excellence in teaching and learning across the campus
  • Represent San Diego Continuing Education at Professional Learning seminars and conferences; remain current in Professional Learning trends and technologies; integrate trends and technologies into programs for faculty, classified professionals, and administrative staff
  • Communicate and monitor professional learning resources available to the campus
  • Co-chair or Chair SDCCEs Professional Development Committee; Chair the professional development sub-committees for Flex and Classified Professionals
  • Participate on various college committees to assist in shared governance
  • Organize and coordinate professional development events and flex day activities; identify and arrange for speakers; provide leadership and coordination of live and mediated activities; coordinate orientation for new and continuing staff
  • Manage and coordinate the FLEX operations including the Flex tracking systems, posting, and tracking of instructional flex opportunities and hours
  • Plan, implement, and manage the Vision Resource Center/Professional Learning Hub (VRC/PLH), including communicating and tracking offerings, to meet the needs of all employees


Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants for this position must show evidence of the following:

1. Any bachelors degree or higher AND two years of professional experience; OR,
2. Any associates degree AND six years of professional experience; OR,
3. The ability to meet the minimum qualifications for any noncredit discipline in which courses are offered at San Diego College of Continuing Education;- AND -Evidence of formal training in adult learning theory and professional development

NOTE: All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions, unless otherwise specified.

The successful candidate will have:
  • A deep understanding of integrating diversity, equity, inclusion and access into professional development programming
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating a professional development program including professional development workshops, large-scale events, budget management and reporting.
  • Experience evaluating professional development workshops, including conducting professional development needs assessment and outcomes evaluation,
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, tracking, evaluation, and reporting methods.
  • Experience developing and evaluating curriculum, teaching materials, and training materials
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating a FLEX program at a community college
  • Experience coordinating, developing and facilitating college FLEX days or conference-like events
  • Experience managing and tracking FLEX activities and instructor hours at a community college
  • Knowledge of the emerging trends in facilitation, professional development, and noncredit education
  • Experience with multi-media technologies, distance learning, and the Internet; and experience incorporating these into teaching to enhance student outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience with meeting and project management technologies (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams, SharePoint), presentation and analysis tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, survey software), and professional learning management platforms (e.g., FLEX, VRC/PLH)
  • Skill in working cooperatively with staff, students, shared governance groups, industry, and the community
  • Experience teaching in noncredit-related disciplines
  • Experience in, or be qualified to provide direction for, instructional curriculum development needs and opportunities to foster equity and excellence in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.


Licenses:
[If possess] Full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter

Pay Information:
Class 0, Step A - Class 6, Step C ($5,740.38- $8,128.98) per month based on the current AFT - Continuing Education Faculty Salary Schedule.


Initial salary placement for this Continuing Education Instructor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Continuing Education Instructors earn tenure after 4 years.
