Class Purpose

Under general direction, supports the administration of the District's risk management, occupational safety, insurance, and liability claims programs; coordinates activities designed to minimize organizational risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect District assets.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Coordinate general risk management and safety programs District-wide, including implementation and monitoring of safety initiatives, compliance activities, and employee training programs.
  • Assist with administration of legacy workers' compensation claims, including coordination with third-party administrators, legal counsel, and District departments.
  • Coordinate liability claims administration, accident investigations, claim documentation, and insurance-related reporting activities.
  • Review and track certificates of insurance for vendors, contractors, and facility use agreements to ensure compliance with District insurance requirements.
  • Assist with claim litigation support activities by maintaining records, gathering documentation, coordinating responses, and communicating with legal counsel and insurance representatives.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of the District's Hazardous Materials (HazMat) compliance programs, including required documentation, training, and reporting.
  • Coordinate and support compliance with the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), and other applicable risk and safety regulations.
  • Develop, update, and maintain risk management, safety, emergency preparedness, and related policies and procedures.
  • Organize and coordinate District-wide safety training programs, including first aid/CPR, active assailant response, workplace violence prevention, hazard communication, and other risk and safety-related trainings.
  • Develop and maintain District-wide training schedules and records for required safety and compliance trainings.
  • Support cybersecurity awareness and risk mitigation initiatives in coordination with Information Technology and other District departments.
  • Prepare reports, maintain confidential records, monitor compliance activities, and assist with audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a resource to District departments regarding risk management, safety, insurance, and compliance matters.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in one of the social sciences, business or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of para-professional or professional experience involving planning, organizing, administering, coordinating, or promoting programs within risk management or safety.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta Colleges' students, faculty, staff and community.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
  • Comprehensive understanding of record-keeping, reporting procedures, and compliance requirements, particularly in higher education.
  • District, college, division, and department policies and procedures related to the area of assignment.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Basic mathematical computations.
  • Basic research methods and techniques.
Skills:
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and oversee multiple complex projects and deadlines concurrently.
  • Advanced proficiency in the utilization of standard office productivity software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), personal computers, and the internet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of drafting complex reports, correspondence, and presentations for senior leadership.
Ability to:
  • Maintain highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion, professionalism, tact, and sound judgment.
  • Read, interpret, apply, and explain applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and technical information related to the assigned area.
  • Analyze information, evaluate operational systems and procedures, identify problems, and develop effective recommendations and solutions.
  • Perform multiple complex assignments simultaneously while managing changing priorities, deadlines, and interruptions with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Operate modern office technology and business software applications and remain current with emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports, correspondence, recommendations, and other written materials.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, outside agencies, and the public while providing a high level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Work effectively under pressure and demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and employees.
