ESOL Instructor(s) (Part-Time)
POSITION: Part-Time ESOL Instructor(s) (Staff Assistant): Center for Adult Education; Lawrence Campus (Dimitry Building, 45 Franklin Street); MCCC/MTA Unit Professional Position up to 6 hours per week

SUMMARY: The NECC Center for Adult Education is seeking dedicated ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) instructors to teach in-person ESOL classes across Levels 1-6. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting adult English language learners and is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment that promotes student growth and success. This role requires knowledge of ESL/ESOL instructional strategies, strong communication skills, and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of adult learners.

Non-Credit Instructors are hired on an as needed basis. Instruction is delivered face-to-face on the Lawrence campus, with courses scheduled during evening hours.

**Non-Credit Instructor positions are an "Open Pool" for the Fall 26/Spring 27 Academic Year. There may or may not be available openings at this time however, when an opening does occur, the hiring manager will draw from the pool of applicants we have on file on an as needed basis**

RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties for this position include:
  • Develop and deliver engaging, rigorous, standards-aligned ESOL lessons tailored to adult learners' proficiency levels and needs.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, promotes language acquisition, and supports student leadership.
  • Assess students' English language proficiency using formal and informal methods, and use data to inform and guide instructional decisions. Provide timely, constructive feedback to support language development and academic progress.
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, and complete records in accordance with funder and institutional requirements.
  • Submit attendance, promotion recommendations and reports in a timely manner in accordance with funder guidelines.
  • Use department-approved textbooks, instructional materials, and Brightspace to support teaching and learning.
  • Participate in sub-committee meetings, staff meetings, and Common Planning Time.
  • Proactively engage in professional development opportunities to strengthen instructional practice and remain current with best practices in adult education.
  • Support program operations by administering pre- and post-assessments, and providing substitute coverage as needed.
  • Use data to differentiate instruction, monitor student attendance and progress, and support students in identifying career pathways that promote program completion.
  • Monitor student participation and attendance, follow up on absences, and track assessment progress as part of an intrusive advising approach.
  • Collaborate with program advisors and assistant directors to develop individualized student support plans that promote retention and successful outcomes.
  • Ensure student participation in course evaluations, surveys, etc., to support continuous program improvement.
  • Implement a variety of instructional strategies and methodologies to support student engagement and achievement.
  • Prepare and submit written unit and lesson plans that align with appropriate content and state standards.
  • Participate in classroom observations, welcome constructive feedback, and demonstrate a willingness to refine instructional practices to improve student success.
  • Maintain regular communication with the CAE staff.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in TESOL, Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to build rapport with adult learners and foster a supportive, inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement, persistence, and retention.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theory and evidence-based ESOL instructional practices.
  • Ability to teach students across a range of English language proficiency levels.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student records and use data related to attendance, assessment, and student progress to inform instruction.
  • Proficiency in using instructional technology, including Brightspace, online curriculum and resources.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive learning environment that supports the success of diverse adult learners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in TESOL, Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching ESOL in a DESE funded adult education program
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Experience working with and supporting culturally and linguistically diverse adult learners.

BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment.

Additional Information:
SALARY: $40.00/hour
  • Teacher is compensated for all hours worked which includes classroom instruction, prep time, professional development, meetings, and subbing
  • Non-benefited position
