Position Summary
This position is for a 3-year special project and will end upon completion of the project. This position is classified as an independent contractor role.
The Instructional Designer supports faculty in the development and improvement of high-quality, accessible, and engaging courses across all modalities, with a primary focus on online and hybrid learning environments. This position collaborates with faculty, academic departments, and educational technology teams to enhance course design, improve student learning outcomes, and implement evidence-based instructional practices.
Key responsibilities include designing and revising courses aligned with institutional standards, assisting faculty in the effective use of learning management systems (LMS) and emerging technologies, and providing training on instructional design principles and best practices. This is a full-time, three-year position with the potential for renewal based on performance and institutional need.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience designing and supporting online or hybrid courses in higher education.
- Knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE), adult learning principles, and learning assessment.
- Proficiency in using learning management systems and authoring tools (e.g., D2L/Brightspace, Canvas, Articulate, Camtasia).
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and cross-functional teams
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
- Quality Matters certification or experience applying QM standards.
- Experience with universal design for learning (UDL) and creating accessible digital content.
- Experience facilitating faculty development or training sessions.
- Familiarity with competency-based or outcomes-based education.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to move between offices, classrooms, and meeting spaces on campus.
- Occasional lifting of instructional materials or equipment (up to 25 pounds).
- Visual acuity to read, prepare, and analyze instructional materials and electronic data.
