Job Description Summary:
Supports the ACC Children's Lab School, a National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited and Texas Rising Star (TRS) 4-Star recognized demonstration and training site, by integrating theory, research, and practice for students, faculty, and the broader college community. Serves as a liaison between the Lab School and the college by building collaborative partnerships and cross-departmental relationships, while applying strategic, vision-oriented thinking to support and advance the mission, functions, and long-term success of the school within a higher education setting.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks
  • Supports the Children's Lab School as a demonstration and training site for early childhood best practices, integrating theory, research, and practice for students, faculty, and the broader college community.
  • Ensures and maintains program, state, and national accreditation standards, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation, Texas Rising Star (4-Star) Program, and Outdoor Learning Environment (OLE!) of Texas.
  • Responsible for continuous compliance with local and state child care regulations and inspections, including but not limited to Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing, Austin Community College policies, Austin Public Health State Food Certificate, Texas Department of State Health Service, and monitors the maintenance of the facility and grounds.
  • Supervises and provides coaching for a high-quality, play-based emergent curriculum for classroom lead teachers, assistant teachers, and support staff of the Children's Lab School, including the Evening Care program.
  • Coordinates with Child Care and Development department faculty and Children's Lab School classroom teachers to provide fieldwork experiences for ACC students. Assists with conducting criminal background checks and risk assessments. Schedules fieldwork hours, verifies completion of mandated fieldwork hours, creates a fieldwork calendar, guidelines, and forms for fieldwork packets. In conjunction with department faculty, meets with students to resolve problems or issues related to fieldwork. Provides support for classroom teachers who supervise and evaluate ACC students.
  • Develops staff schedules, coordinates training, and evaluates personnel while adhering to human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws. Hires and recommends termination actions for positions supervised.
  • Administers childcare enrollment processes, including (but not limited to) tours for prospective families, overseeing the wait list for available child care slots, enrolling children, managing childcare tuition sliding scale, and recommendations for removing families from care. Submits reports and tuition billings.
  • Manages Children's Lab School operating budget, reviews and approves purchases of consumables; may seek funding and manage grants for special projects. Recommends and collaborates on the annual budget with the Child Care and Development Chair.
  • Coordinates annual vision, hearing, and developmental screenings, and ensures admission compliance with state of Texas guidelines.
  • Builds strong, reciprocal relationships with families, supporting engagement, communication, and connection to community resources. Facilitates grandparent program; plans and coordinates new parent orientation, monthly parent meetings, annual parenting support series, and family social events. Communicates with parents on routine development and provides resource and referral information as needed.
  • Participates in various programs and organizations within the community to enhance the program and provide outreach for the college.

Required Work Experience
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a licensed/registered childcare program.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience (Completion of the ACC Supervisor Certificate Series Program will satisfy the supervisory experience requirement)


Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree


Special Requirements
  • Must complete and pass a fingerprint-based Child Care Regulation Centralized Background Check through Texas Health and Human Services.
  • Must complete a Pre-Employment Affidavit for Applicants for Employment at Certain Child Care Operations, and an Affidavit for Applicants for Employment with a Licensed Operation or Registered Child-Care Home
  • Texas Director's Credential.
  • Must be a Texas resident at hire date
  • First aid and CPR certified.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel


Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a childcare center, 0-5 classroom settings, and/or in a standard ACC office.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional carrying of children ages 0-5.
  • Travel to campus and community locations within the ACC service area.


Salary Range (PG 124)

$69,762 - $87,202
