Definition:
The Department of Information Technology Department is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Senior Information Technology Technician.
Comprised of two colleges, West Valley College and Mission College, we are located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Our staff and faculty are among the most qualified in the state and our students appreciate our two colleges for our friendly staff and supportive atmosphere.
Under the direction of the Director of Educational Technology Services, this position performs responsible technical duties related to computer hardware and software customer support and training; provides leadership, project support, and ongoing maintenance for new and modified systems and programs; supports instructional technologies; maintains, installs, troubleshoots, and configures desktop and laptop computers and related peripheral equipment; and leads, organizes, assigns, and reviews the work of assigned support staff engaged in computer system maintenance and deployment.

Assignment:
100% of full time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of July 2026. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. This position is a member of the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA), Office, Technical & Business Services Employee Unit.

Salary and Benefits:
Anticipated Hiring Range:
- $10,734.17 -$11,748.25 monthly (WVMCEA Salary Schedule, Range 76, Steps A-C).

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
- Education: Equivalent to the completion of an Associates degree from an accredited college with major courses work in information systems, computer technology, or a related field.
- Experience: Two years of responsible journey experience similar to Information Technology Technician with the West Valley-Mission Community College District.
AND
Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
Desired Qualification:
The ideal candidate will also possess the following desired qualification(s):
- Experience managing and scheduling a pool of student assistants or part-time technical support staff in a higher education or instructional technology environment.
- Experience supporting instructional computing environments such as computer labs, learning centers, or classroom technology deployments.
- Experience coordinating large-scale computer refresh cycles, imaging, and deployment of desktops and laptops across multiple labs or instructional spaces.
- Experience maintaining inventory systems for computers, peripherals, and classroom technology equipment.
- Experience supporting faculty and students in academic computing environments, including troubleshooting specialized instructional software.
- Experience supporting or coordinating with server, network, or VDI environments that support instructional labs.
- Experience documenting procedures, training student assistants, and creating operational workflows for lab support.
- Experience prioritizing and responding to help desk or ticketing system requests in a high-volume academic environment.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of technical and functional oversight and training.
- Client server technologies; network operating systems.
- Installation, configuration, and management of servers and desktops; backup and storage procedures.
- Methods, tools and techniques of testing, troubleshooting, problem solving and maintenance of hardware and software related to computers, network, and communication systems.
Ability to:
- Provide technical and functional oversight over assigned staff; effectively train staff.
- Perform the most complex duties related to information technology hardware and software customer support.
- Intermittently, review documents related to department operations; observe, identify and problem solve office operations and procedures; understand, interpret and explain department policies and procedures; explain operations and problem solve issues for the public and with staff.
- On a continuous basis, sit at desk for long periods of time; intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding desk; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; use telephone, write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; and lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less.
- Perform server disk configuration, testing, monitoring, and hardware configuration/installation.
- Work on board/component level on hardware parts.
- Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
- Operate and use modern office equipment including computers and applicable software.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.
- Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Relate effectively with people of varied academic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy.
- Establish and maintain effective, cooperative and collaborative working relationships with others.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of information technology support duties.
- Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications.
- Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Implement and maintain systems to support faculty and staff computers remotely.
- Provide assistance to customers with both desktop and server technologies.
- Perform the most difficult and complex work related to implementation and maintenance of district client server technologies.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other district employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
- Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
