Position Description


Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities and Operations, maintain central warehousing operations for the District; receive, inventory, organize, store, and track deliveries from suppliers; organize and schedule supply and equipment deliveries to District work sites; maintain receiving and warehouse records; serve as the District Hazardous Material Coordinator by tracking, organizing, monitoring and facilitating the appropriate handling and disposal of hazardous waste; serve as the District Recycling Specialist; support the District operations department in the full range of activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title.

  • Promote sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds within a community college environment.
  • Maintain records of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals; ensure District compliance with laws, policies and regulations regarding use and storage of hazardous materials and pesticides;
  • Prepare and submit reports to San Bernardino Fire, San Bernardino County and CalRecycle.
  • Prepare responses to requests for information from the Department of Toxic Substance Control about hazardous waste.
  • Prepare Waste Reduction and Recycling Survey for San Bernardino County.
  • Participate in safety and accident prevention, environmental and site protection, and disaster preparedness.
  • Under the authority of the Director of Facilities & Operations, educate and direct college employees on HAZMAT requirements.
  • Under the authority of the Director of Facilities & Operations, work with Burrtec, CalRecycle, and college employees to improve and maintain the campus recycling program.
  • Advise college employees on local requirements for materials handling and storage.
  • Receive and deliver materials, equipment and supplies to departments and maintain current and accurate records.
  • Inspect incoming stock for conformity to purchase order specifications.
  • Maintain District warehouse and determine storage space requirements, stock levels and reorder points and condition of supplies.
  • Requisition supplies and completes purchase requests.
  • Work closely with purchasing department to ensure that purchase order items are accurately received and accounted for.
  • Deliver equipment and supplies to departments and follow-up as necessary with missing, lost or incomplete orders.
  • Maintain District equipment stored within the warehouse and keep shelving in clean and orderly condition; identify excess unserviceable items and properly dispose thereof.
  • Load and operate trucks, operate a fork lift and pallet jacks.
  • Responsible for posting and delivery of outgoing mail to post office, picking up incoming mail and sorting and distribution to College mail room.
  • Arrange storage of a variety of District records and files according to prescribed rules and laws.
  • Respond to emergency situations and take appropriate action.
  • Assist with security during special events and activities.
  • Assist with pesticide and grounds keeping duties.
  • Support the District operations department in the full range of activities.
  • Deliver, assemble, move and pick up equipment for daily or special events.
  • Operate a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Turns lights on and off; lock and unlock doors; set and turn off intrusion alarm systems.
  • Identify and maintain personal protective equipment needs and have available for use.?
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and two years experience in the areas of warehouse operations, logistics, hazardous materials and/or recycling.
  • Some experience in general building maintenance.

Licenses And Other Requirements:
  • Valid California driver's license and must have an acceptable driving record and qualify for insurability by the District's insurance carrier.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain Forklift certification.
  • Hazardous material handler certificate, or ability to obtain hazardous material handler certificate.

Knowledge of: Principles of warehousing and storekeeping, including record-keeping related to receiving, storage and distribution of materials; lifting, loading and unloading equipment and supplies; appropriate safety precautions and procedures; basic operations, tools, methods and materials used in grounds, operations and maintenance; proper lifting techniques. Principles of safe storage and handling of materials and hazardous waste. Knowledge of recycling programs.

Ability to: Plan and organize warehouse, stores and delivery activities; operate a forklift; maintain accurate records of receipt, storage and distribution; work cooperatively with others; understand and follow oral and written instructions; observe health and safety regulations; lift moderately heavy objects, bend at the waist, kneel or crouch; reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; use computer for tracking purchase orders and items received; perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties

Supplemental Information


  • Lifting and carrying heavy materials, furniture, equipment and tools up to 100 lbs.
  • Climbing, crawling, and stooping to reach work.
  • Bend at the waist, kneel or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
  • Manual strength and dexterity to operate tools and equipment, and pull, push or manipulate heavy objects against resistance.
  • Sufficient respiratory health to be able to wear a respirator mask.
