Technician, Fire Alarm

Job Description Summary:
Responsible for installation, troubleshooting, programming, testing, and inspection of fire alarm systems districtwide.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

1) Inspects buildings for code compliance.
2) Identifies and corrects hazards.
3) Performs annual inspections and preventative maintenance services on fire alarm systems.
4) Installs, modifies, maintains, programs, and repairs fire alarm panels.
5) Investigates, reports, and responds to emergency calls.
6) Installs pull stations, smoke detectors, and duct detectors.
7) Required to be subject to on-call duties and respond to emergencies after hours, weekends, holidays, and during emergency closures
8) Complies with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies, and established work practices.
9) Assist various contractors in new installations of fire alarm and fire protection systems; shutdowns, testing etc.

10) Assist Austin Community College HVAC and Electrical Depts when their assistance is needed; shutdowns, relocations etc.

Knowledge
* All aspects of fire alarm hardware and software systems.
* NFPA codes and local codes.

* Silent Knight factory training preferred

* OSHA 10 training preferred(or higher)

Technology Skills
* Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.

Required Work Experience
* Two years related work experience.

Preferred Work Experience
* Five years related work experience.

Required Education
* High school diploma or educational equivalent.

Special Requirements

* Must have valid and current Texas fire alarm license(FAL)

* Experience with Silent Knight, Potter, Firelite, Fike and other fire protection equipment.
* Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.

Physical Requirements
* Work is performed in a variety of settings.
* Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and at times subject to stooping, crawling, climbing and full use of ladders.
* May need to lift heavy objects of up to 50 pounds.
* May be exposed to a variety of temperatures, noise, moving mechanical parts, or chemicals.
* Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to focus.

Safety

* Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

* Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment including:
Work clothes
Safety Shoes
Eye and Face Protection
Hearing Protection
Respirator (N95) or more protective

$56,919 - $71,148
