The History Department offers approximately 80 sections per year of courses in a variety of areas of history, in including United States history, Black/African American history, Mexican and Latino American history, Global studies, history of Britain, history of California, history of Latin America and Mexico, Western Civilization, and World history. Courses provide students with general education, and prepare them to transfer as History majors to CSU and other four-year institutions. Department members contribute to a number of interdisciplinary programs, including Black/Africana Studies, Chicano Studies, Social Justice Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, and Teacher Training Academy (TRAC).

This is a 10-month tenure-track contract position.

1. Tests and exams must be available to the student without charge.

If these four conditions are not met, the electronic textbook cannot be used.
Master's degree in history OR Bachelor's degree in history AND Master's degree in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women's studies, social science, or ethnic studies OR the equivalent.
Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.
- Experience teaching African American/Black history courses
- Graduate training in the study of African American/Black history and culture
- Interest in and/or experience supporting student support programs such as Umoja
- Interest in and/or experience supporting student life and activities, such as advising Black student clubs, or working with campus groups such as the Black Excellence Collaborative
- Experience teaching United States history survey courses
- Demonstrated proficiency in online college teaching
- Proficiency with online course design standards, such as the OEI Course Design Rubric, Quality Matters, or the Peralta Equity Rubric
- Experience teaching community college or similar students
- Knowledge of techniques appropriate to teaching first-generation college students
Physical requirements may be met with or without reasonable accommodations. Requires ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom-type locations. Ability to operate classroom equipment, including computer, and provide instruction and make presentations. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals or groups to carry on complex or routine conversations. Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (less than 30lbs.) on an occasional basis.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Salary rate is: $79,401 - $121,920/annual. (Salary is based on education and experience)
Health and welfare benefits include District contribution for medical/dental/vision benefits and employee life insurance ($50,000). (Cash-in-lieu option available on medical insurance.)
Participation in the State Teachers' Retirement System.
Conditions of Employment
This is a tenure-track contract position. Contract will be for 10 school months for the academic year beginning fall semester 2023.
Participation in a pre-service orientation and/or probationary in-service training is required.
Please note: Per Board Policy 7210 "A bachelor's degree or the equivalent, from an accredited educational institution, shall be the minimum degree requirement for
obtaining tenure as a faculty member in the District. The Board of Trustees reserves the right to determine whether a faculty member shall be granted tenure."
Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice and remit the required fee for processing the fingerprints, produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment.

Effective January 3, 2022, Board Policy 2905 will require mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations as a condition of employment.
