Basic Function/Overview:
THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS.

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.

OVERVIEW
Courses to be taught may include: Introduction to Ethnic Studies (ETHS 1), Race and Racism in Education (ETHS 2), and Introduction to Chicanx Studies (LCAS 1).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Provide Ethnic Studies discipline expertise in the collaborative creation of Ethnic Studies curriculum and lead the development of the Ethnic Studies Program in collaboration with multidisciplinary faculty colleagues.
  2. Teach courses in the disciplines for which the candidate meets Minimum Qualifications or the equivalent.
  3. Teach assigned courses in accordance with course outline of record.
  4. Instruct and support students with diverse backgrounds utilizing culturally relevant pedagogy, careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including for online instruction, informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions, student learning outcomes, and support a philosophy of instruction focusing on critical thinking and analysis.
  5. Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees.
  6. Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with administrative responsibilities and College, division, and department policies.


Minimum Qualifications:
A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
  1. Masters degree in Chicano Studies ; OR
  2. Ethnic Studies:
    1. Masters in the ethnic studies field; OR
    2. A masters in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies; OR
    3. Interdisciplinary Studies:
      1. Masters in the interdisciplinary area: OR
      2. Masters in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline
        1. (NOTE: The Interdisciplinary Studies discipline is provided to allow for those cases where it is locally determined that a course must be taught by someone with qualifications that exceed a single discipline. The constituent disciplines can include any disciplines found in the Masters List.)


  3. The equivalent (must request an equivalency review in the application), OR
  4. California Community College credential, "Valid for Life" (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.);
AND

B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.

This position may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California drivers license.

Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is required to be present on Mt. San Antonio Colleges campus to perform all essential duties and responsibilities.
