Description
Job Duties:
To strengthen student persistence and re-engagement, the project will hire a Retention Specialist. The Retention Specialist will provide dedicated capacity to develop and provide consistent retention and early alert protocols for business pathway students. This strategy will allow Brazosport College to respond more quickly and intentionally when business students show signs of academic, enrollment, financial, or personal barriers that may place their credential completion at risk. The Retention Specialist will have project-specific duties related to early alert protocol development, early alert intervention coordination, and case management documentation. This is a Grant Funded position. The Retention Specialist will lead and/or support the following:
- Develop, document, and maintain standardized early alert, retention, and re-engagement protocols for business pathway students.
- Define and monitor early alert triggers, including academic standing, enrollment reductions, course withdrawals, attendance concerns, registration gaps, and reported basic-needs barriers.
- Initiate student outreach within five business days or less after an alert is received or a retention concern is identified.
- Assess student needs and coordinate individualized intervention plans, including referrals to tutoring, academic support, advising, basic-needs services, financial assistance, or other College resources.
- Help students identify alternative enrollment and completion options, including accelerated terms, interim courses, short-term credentials, revised course sequences, or planned re-entry.
- Coordinate with Business Pathway Advisors, faculty, the Experiential Learning Coordinator, and other stakeholders to ensure retention interventions align with each student's pathway and advising plan.
- Conduct re-engagement outreach to business students who stop out, fail to register, reduce enrollment, or otherwise disengage from their planned pathway.
- Document outreach attempts, student responses, referrals, intervention plans, and case outcomes in the appropriate College systems.
- Assist with tracking persistence, retention, re-enrollment, course completion, and credential progression for grant monitoring and reporting.
- Analyze recurring student barriers and intervention outcomes to inform process improvements, professional development, and future retention strategies.
- Develop training materials and guidance for faculty and staff on early alert referrals, response expectations, documentation, and coordinated student support.
- Support the transition of effective retention and re-engagement practices into regular College operations by the conclusion of the grant period.
