Overview
On-site residence life position responsible for the overall operation and leadership of the College's single residence hall located on the Beloit College Campus and serving as the primary on-call professional staff member, with responsibility for evening, weekend and holiday emergency response. Position provides day-to-day oversight of residential life, supervises resident assistants, manages housing-related processes, and serves as the primary conduct officer for residential students. This position plays a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging living and learning environment that supports student success. Position requires year-round residence in an on-campus apartment for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities
Oversight and Administration
  • Serve as the on-site residence life specialist for the College's 70-bed residence hall, overseeing daily operations and emergency response while maintaining a visible on-site presence, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Coordinate housing assignments, room changes, and waitlists.
  • Communicate housing policies, procedures, and expectations to students and families; assist with policy development and annual review of housing procedures.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student resident assistants.
  • Coordinate work schedules and duty rotations for resident assistants to ensure continuous residence hall coverage; hold regular staff meetings.
  • Oversee administrative processes related to residence hall functions and maintain accurate records, including oversight for move-in/move-out and annual building openings/closings.
  • Respond to requests for information and engage in campus (Beloit College and Blackhawk) and community meetings and events.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with Beloit College and Facilities for maintenance and custodial needs.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs and report safety/maintenance concerns.
  • Monitor occupancy levels and support recruitment/retention efforts.
  • Collaborate with admissions/enrollment on housing placements.

Safety, Security, and Emergency Response
  • Serve in a primary on-call capacity for the residence hall, responding to student crises, emergencies, and critical incidents and addressing student policy violations, issues and concerns.
  • Identify and proactively support at risk-students, collaborating with counseling staff, safety/security staff, and leadership as needed and referring students to appropriate student support services.
  • Follow College and residence hall guidelines for emergency management and provide training to resident assistants on emergency response.
  • Communicate and enforce College and residence hall policies with resident assistants and community members, and provide proactive, ongoing education and training related to policy compliance.

Student Conduct and Behavior Management
  • Serve as the primary conduct officer for Blackhawk residential students.
  • Address policy violations, including documentation, investigations, and hearings.
  • Implement educational sanctions and restorative practices aligned with College conduct policies.
  • Collaborate with the Student Experience and Compliance Manager or their designee on complex or escalated conduct cases.

Student Engagement and Community Development
  • Maintain an active and approachable presence in the residence hall, supporting student conflict resolution and roommate mediations.
  • Promote student retention, wellness, and belonging by fostering an inclusive residential community and delivering engaging programs.
  • Manage and track the residence life programming budget.

Student-Athlete Support and Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between Residence Life and Athletics, collaborating with coaches, athletic director, and academic advisors to support student-athlete success.
  • Provide oversight and support for student-athletes in residence, including regular check-ins on academic progress, wellbeing, and team commitments.
  • Promote accountability by reinforcing housing expectations alongside team policies (e.g., study hall, curfew, conduct) and addressing concerns proactively.
  • Support academic success by monitoring progress, coordinating study hall or academic support, and referring students to campus resources as needed.
  • Assist athletics with operational needs such as communication, event participation, and limited administrative coordination (e.g., travel or scheduling support as appropriate).
  • Address and respond to student-athlete conduct, behavioral concerns, and emergencies, ensuring proper documentation and communication with Athletics.

Student Support Services and CARE Collaboration
  • Serve as an active member of the College's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), contributing observations, documentation, and follow-up related to students of concern.
  • Identify and proactively support students experiencing academic, personal, or financial challenges; provide early intervention and referrals to appropriate campus resources (e.g., advising, counseling, tutoring, financial aid).
  • Utilize early alert systems and collaborate with faculty and staff to support student retention and success.
  • Provide general student services support, including assisting students with navigation of College systems, processes, and resources. Promote awareness and utilization of resources available to students.
  • Support follow-up and case coordination for students referred through CARE, conduct, or other student support processes. Provide support to the Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator as needed to ensure ongoing Title IX compliance.
  • Hold regular office hours in Peet Hall and at the Beloit-Janesville Campus. Work on the Beloit-Janesville Campus as needed.
  • Attend regular staff meetings for CARE Center and Student Services.


Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; ability to interact professionally and respectfully with diverse populations and all levels of College staff.
  • Knowledge of student conduct processes and crisis response. Understanding of FERPA regulations and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and problem-solving abilities; ability to work under pressure in dynamic and challenging situations.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication to include report writing and documentation.
  • Visual and auditory alertness and ability to move about to monitor surroundings and respond to alarms or emergencies.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the operational needs of the residence hall to include move-in, move-out, opening/closing, and high-volume student activity times, and to coordinate time off in advance.
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft 365 proficiency.


Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in university or college housing/residential life (graduate assistantship or professional experience).
  • Experience supervising college students.
