Coordinator of Academic Support Services

Arkansas State University-Newport

The Coordinator of Academic Support Services is responsible for supervising employees in library services and performing professional academic support services duties. This position is governed by state and federal laws and College policy. This role supports the College's mission of providing and ensuring quality educational programs for ASUN's various constituencies.

This position will be housed on the Newport campus but will work and supervise the libraries and work-study students on all ASUN campus locations as needed. This position will provide direct supervision to all part-time or work-study employees working in the library facilities on any of the ASUN campuses.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years of experience in professional library services and/or academic support services in a two-year college is preferred.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the Coordinator for Academic Support Services for Arkansas State University-Newport.
  • Promotes, develops, and assesses quality learning technology resources that align with local education program and community needs.
  • Cultivates and maintains community partnerships to ensure local support of the College's education and Lifelong Learning programs.
  • Exercises effective management skills through collegial communication with other ASUN departments.
  • Provides effective management of fiscal policies and procedures within Library Services, Tutoring, Academic Support Services, and Lifelong Learning.
  • Actively participates in activities geared toward resource acquisition, support, and funding to sustain program infrastructure, growth, and sustainability.
  • Models effective decision making skills through use of the principles of shared leadership through open communication.
  • Preparing and recommending for approval the budget for Academic Support Services.
  • Oversees Library facilities and coordinates appropriate safety guidelines, training, and equipment.
  • Coordinates special events related to Library Services, Tutoring, Academic Support Services, and Lifelong Learning.
  • Serves on college-wide committees, special project teams, state and local committees, and community service and civic committees as needed, and acts as a professional and positive representative of the College.
  • Maintains the expectations set forth by the American Library Association.
  • Development and maintenance of records and reports needed for programmatic offerings, tutoring, early alert services, archival, and accreditation.
  • Catalogs and maintains library holdings, including special holdings such as museum materials and archives.
  • Design and set-up rotating book displays and other appropriate displays based on seasonal events and days of recognition.
  • Serves as a frontline source of guidance to campus resources.
  • Volunteers at community events.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    Minimum of two years of experience in professional library services and/or academic support services in a two-year college is preferred.

    RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT
    Responsible for the maintenance of all library and lifelong learning facilities and equipment. Responsible for academic support services equipment and archives.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Provides leadership to part-time library, tutoring, academic support services, and lifelong learning staff.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS
    Excellent communication skills are required. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals so others will understand; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from faculty, administration or the general public.

    CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
    Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of unknown variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED
    Under direction of the Dean for STEM, working from policies and general directives.

    ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT
    Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

    PLANNING
    Considerable responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work, in addition, the work operations of a group of employees.

    DECISION MAKING
    Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of major importance and also frequent opportunity for decision-making of significant importance, either of which would significantly affect the operations of the College.

    IMPACT OF DECISIONS
    Requires making decisions that impact the results of co-workers, clients or the College. Mistakes are not easily correctable and have serious consequences, require making decisions that affect organizational process, the financial resources, and/or the image and reputation of the organization.

    CONTACT WITH OTHERS
    Involves both furnishing and obtaining information and, also, attempting to influence the decisions of those persons contacted. Regular contact with other College employees at all

    TECHNOLOGY
    Knowledge of catalogs, records, on-line databases and classification systems used in libraries as well as the use of ERP systems and Learning Management Systems preferred.

    Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    There are no harmful environmental conditions that are present for this position. Some equipment may be hazardous. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
