Starting salary for this position is: $42.05 - $89.48 per hour based on workload category.

This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will:

  • Prepare for and instruct classes in Ceramics as appropriate to program needs, through traditional classroom and studio modalities.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and maintain current knowledge in Ceramics.
  • Commit to the success of a socially and culturally diverse student population through equity-minded teaching, advising, and mentoring.
  • Utilize equity minded practices in the development of course syllabi, assessments, and materials supporting the instructional process.
  • Support and advance the Spokane Colleges strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work strategically with diverse colleagues and community members.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities, follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, safety and health issues, and related processes.
MINIMUM QULIFICATIONS
  • An earned Bachelor's in a fine arts field with experience in Ceramics.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach methods including hand building, wheel throwing, and mold making techniques.
  • Experience with a variety of studio equipment and shop safety procedures, including clay mixing equipment, firing of gas and electric kilns, and atmospheric and alternative firing processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving a socially and culturally diverse student population.
DESIRED QULIFICATIONS
  • An earned Master's in a Fine Arts field with experience in Ceramics.
  • Teaching experience in a community or academic setting.
  • Knowledge of global, historical, and contemporary practices in ceramics.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to support collaboration in a shared workspace.
  • Experience in advising and mentoring a diverse student population.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information

Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
