The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, English as a Second Language, De Anza College.

The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy. All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Teach all ESL skills at all levels using a variety of culturally inclusive teaching strategies. Support the success of all students through effective use and understanding of multicultural and multiethnic materials, pedagogies, forms of assessment, and feedback techniques. Teach in all modalities, including synchronous, asynchronous, in-person, hybrid, and online. Advise and assist students and develop strategies that meet the needs of a diverse student population and facilitate student retention and success. Collaborate with other members of the ESL Department, the Language Arts Division, and instructors from other divisions in the development of new courses and/or programs needed for student success. Assist in the development and revision of curricula, text selection, student learning outcomes, and ESL Department program review. Keep abreast of research, pedagogical and methodological developments, and equity issues in learning and teaching of all cultural, linguistic, and diverse backgrounds.

Standard faculty responsibilities include curriculum development and evaluation for credit and noncredit offerings (including Credit for Prior Learning, Competency-Based Education, short-term courses, Dual Enrollment, and incarcerated student programs); maintaining scheduled office hours; attending department and division meetings; participating in professional development; serving on college and district committees; and contributing to program review, planning, and evaluation. Faculty may also participate in a wide range of on- and off-campus extracurricular and student engagement activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with TESL emphasis, linguistics with TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis

OR Bachelor's in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language

OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Two years' experience teaching a variety of ESL courses in multiple modalities in community colleges to under-served, under-prepared, and/or international students.
  2. Proficiency in English and ability to serve as a model for second language acquisition.
  3. Evidence of commitment to culturally responsive student-centered pedagogy through coursework, training, and/or experience.
  4. Understanding of and ability to effectively apply current ESL methodology, assessment and engaging instructional techniques.
  5. Demonstrated ability and experience working effectively with colleagues of diverse backgrounds at the department and college level.
  6. Demonstrated leadership in promoting teaching, learning, and departmental innovations.
  7. Experience with instructional technology and development of effective computer-based, online, or multimedia instructional applications in order to meet diverse student needs.

HIRING RANGE: $76,596.00 - $123,297.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
