The Position:
The San Diego College of Continuing Education invites all qualified candidates to apply for the position of Student Support Services Officer - Basic Needs Coordinator (Restricted). This is a restricted position funded by a cooperative agreement with California Community College categorical funding specific for basic needs efforts. The position could continue based upon renewal of funding annually by the California Community College System.

Hours of assignment are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends.

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Basic Needs Coordinator will perform a full range of administrative, programmatic, clerical and technical duties in support of SDCCE's Commitment to Accessible Resources for Educational Support (CARES) program. Our CARES program is designed to help students meet fundamental needs of food, housing, transportation, childcare, and mental health awareness.

Major Responsibilities:
These duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Establish, coordinate, and maintain the CARES Program
  • Oversee the daily operations of the CARES Marketplace Food Pantry
  • Perform a full range of complex program support and administrative duties in support of the CARES program area; coordinates activities, and services, including providing students, staff, and others with specialized information,
  • Case management, training, intervention and assistance related to students basic needs (food, housing, transportation, and/or off campus resources),
  • Coordinate with campus and community organizations to obtain basic needs resources for students that will assist with success, retention, and completion.
  • Organize, coordinate, participate, and deliver workshops, and presentations for students, faculty, and classified professionals regarding basic needs.
  • Serve as a resource for Campus and District community on basic needs efforts.
  • Provide technical assistance to students regarding basic needs and follow-up services.
  • Prepare resource materials to be shared with students and campus community during information sessions and workshops to explain basic needs services and affiliated resources.
  • Participate in student outreach and recruitment efforts to promote basic needs services and resources.
  • Assist with the interpretation of College, District, and State policies, procedures, regulations, guidelines, and basic needs requirements.
  • Participate in a variety of College and District meetings.
  • Hire, train and provide work direction to personnel within the CARES program.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, classified professionals, and administrators within the Colleges across the District, as well as the District Office.
  • Support development and collection of basic needs data and MIS reporting.
  • Monitor, prepare, and analyze multiple budget sources.
  • Assist in analyzing data as well as prepare reports on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify, support writing and submission of funding opportunities that address basic needs and overall student success.
  • Assist with basic needs categorical and restricted budget monitoring.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
Both of the following: (a) Masters degree; AND (b) One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators administrative assignment

  • Administer and manage budgets.
  • Design, develop, and implement effective student support services and programs.
  • Understand and carry out verbal or written instructions in an independent manner.
  • Identify and obtain resources and other needed programs and services to meet students academic and vocational needs and objectives.
  • Assign work to, oversee, and train part-time staff, adjunct faculty and student assistants.
  • Gather, prepare and maintain accurate data, records, files and reports.
  • Analyze situations accurately, determine priorities and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and community or college agencies and services.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and prepare clear and concise technical and statistical reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing required duties.

Pay Information:
Range 12 ($6,173.37 - $10,306.68) per month based on the current Supervisory and Professional Employees Association - Salary Schedule A

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the SPAA - Supervisory & Professional Administrators Association Handbook. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
