Applications are currently being accepted for Instructional Lab Technician / Biology in the School of Math and Natural Sciences, located at San Diego Mesa College. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Desired Qualifications:
Significant upper division coursework or a bachelors degree in microbiology or a closely related field; OR additional two years of relevant work experience. Demonstrated competence in laboratory techniques and equipment commonly required for community college laboratories in microbiology, cellular and molecular biology. Demonstrated competence in the application of biosafety level I and II laboratory guidelines involving the preparation and handling of microbial cultures and chemicals. Demonstrated competence in the application and use of chemical safety level I and II chemicals. Demonstrated knowledge in the proper handling, storage and disposal of chemical and biological wastes. Demonstrated competence in aseptic techniques. Demonstrated competence in culturing a variety of microbial species including those needing specialized conditions. Demonstrated knowledge of basic safety and first aid. The skill to order, receive and maintain equipment and supplies. The skills and ability to oversee use and maintenance of autoclaves and other equipment in microbiology prep laboratory. The ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines. The ability to train, direct and provide support for laboratory staff. The utilization of standard office and technology applications as needed or required. The ability to work independently with little direction. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Pay Information:
Range 24 ($3,780.00 $6,033.74) per month based on the current AFT Classified Unit Office Technical Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Classified Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is FLSA Non-Exempt and may accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
