Applications are currently being accepted for Information Officer in the Office of the President located at San Diego City College. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Principles in public relations, marketing, advertising, graphics design, standards, and printing services for the techniques of preparing, producing and disseminating information, using all major communications media; Journalistic styles of writing and editing; Principles and techniques of establishing and maintaining good internal and external relations; Management of office operations; Special events coordination; Desktop publishing, donor software, photography, interviewing, speech writing, editing, proofreading and multi-media presentation development including PowerPoint presentation skills; Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to provide audience appropriate communications and to communicate to both internal and external audiences; Detail-oriented and ability to effectively interact with coworkers, supervisors and general public. Serve as a resource providing professional counsel regarding sensitive and confidential issues which have potential impact upon the colleges functional and political stability and/or external reputation. Direct and manage the development and implementation of the strategic plan for marketing and public relations. Plan, develop and coordinate college marketing and recruitment materials that create and maintain a consistent, positive and dynamic public image. Keep external community informed of campus activities and events. Maintain archive of news clippings about the college. Produce and maintain inner-agency communications such as newsletters, develop short-range and mid-range communications activities (including measurable goals). Coordinate, schedule, facilitate and direct college public relations with all campus departments; coordinate all college advertising and publicity efforts. Serve as colleges in-house advertising and public relations agency resource. Write and edit clear, concise, accurate and effective informational materials for public distribution while maintaining design and editorial standards to assure high quality of promotional literature. Provide direction for creative development and print production for marketing collateral materials and special events. Oversee the production of multimedia for use in campus presentations and online. Manage and oversee the colleges social media and marketing campaigns. Direct and supervise the production and distribution of news releases, public service announcements, media advisories, selected administrative speeches, campus newsletters and articles relative to subjects that support the college goals with general print and electronic media, trade media and the colleges web page. Coordinate with the Districts Public Information Office on media relations, campus outreach, and District activities and board participation. Facilitate research into the most effective means of communication with different target markets, including print, broadcast and web media. Develop, write and implement a strategic marketing plan to enhance college and community relations in support of enrollment management activities. Understand, support, and adhere to the Colleges graphic standards and District publication protocols. Support or serve as chair of communications committees(e.g., the Marketing Committee). Serve as a member of committees including those directed towards enrollment issues, recognition ceremonies, commencement, the City College Foundation, and others as assigned. Participate in crisis response planning and serve as spokesperson to media inquiries including campus emergency/crisis communication, and serve as a member of the College Community Emergency Response Team (C-CERT). Assist with the management of websites and post routine and emergency messages to the College website, Facebook, Twitter, and mobile applications. Provide coordination for joint projects with the District office and other SDCCD campuses as requested. Serve as liaison with the surrounding communities, high schools as well as other educational institutions, the private sector, government agencies, news media, and public and community groups to enhance the image of the College. Oversee college public information outreach, including development and direction of distribution system to insure timely and direct delivery of college information materials throughout the service area. Serve as a spokesperson for college public information matters. Organize and execute selected special events. Recommend, develop and administer policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Manage public relations and/or any other pertinent communication strategies. Assist in the development and maintenance of the college webpage Recommend, prepare and administer a departmental budget. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students. Prepare administrative and financial reports; maintenance of records. Provide supervision and work direction to others. Perform related duties as assigned by the President. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Masters degree preferred and experience in a college or university communications office preferred. Five years of experience in the public or private sector either working in the field as a journalist, public relations or communications professional preferred. Additional experience and understanding of marketing, graphic production, media and community relations is a plus.

Pay Information:
Range L ($6,379.72 $10,651.18) per month based on the current Supervisory and Professional Employees Association Salary Schedule B

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the SPAA Supervisory & Professional Administrators Association Handbook. This position is FLSA exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
