The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Counselor/Coordinator, Puente Project, De Anza College.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Dean of Equity and Engagement and the Director of the Student Success and Retention Services Program, the Puente Coordinator/Counselor will provide Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) core services (orientation, educational planning, follow-up) along with leadership and program expertise in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Puente Program. Will maintain and provide counseling and support services for incoming and continuing Puente students, will collaborate with the SSRS Director/Coordinator, faculty, staff and co-lead with instructional counterparts a learning community that satisfies UCOP MOU requirements, and will prepare reports and collect data to meet college and MIS data requirements. Will conduct program review and assess student learning outcomes. Requirements of the work may include evening and weekend work sporadically.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

  1. Collaborating with campus partners to address 3SP mandates, student recruitment to the program and Student Equity Initiative goals as co-coordinator of a campus program.
  2. Collaborating on the instructor/counselor/mentor cross-disciplinary teamwork to recruit and prepare students to transfer to four-year institutions.
  3. Supporting the identification, recruitment, and training of peer mentors and tutors.
  4. Acting as lead team member in identifying, recruiting, and training mentors.
  5. Collecting retention, degree completion, and transfer data to report to Puente statewide office, to campus administrators, and the District.
  6. Making campus and community presentations with Director and instructors, as appropriate.
  7. Maintaining contact with Puentistas and Puente Alumni through transfer and beyond.
  8. Collaborate with Puente Program instructional co-coordinator to establish and evaluate student learning outcomes for program services and courses.
  9. Collaborate and organize cultural, academic, and recognition events related to Puente program.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOALS:
  1. Attend all SSRS-Puente training sessions and contribute to SSRS/Puente on-going professional development training.
  2. The selected candidate must commit to attending Puente Summer Institute in June 2019 at UC Berkeley.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in Counseling, rehabilitation counseling, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, or the equivalent.

NOTE: Official Transcripts verifying qualifications will be REQUIRED prior to an offer of employment. Applicants who have international transcripts must obtain transcripts that are evaluated by an independent educational-equivalency evaluation company and obtain an English translation (if necessary). These services are to be done at the applicant's expense. Both Foothill De Anza CCD employees and external candidates must submit transcripts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in providing counseling and career services to multi-ethnic and underrepresented students.
  2. Knowledgeable about culturally relevant strategies for developing and teaching personal development, college success and/or career courses for underserved Latino students.
  3. Demonstrated experience in serving traditionally underserved students.
  4. Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively on a project and/or part of a program-based team.
  5. Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to develop a community volunteer mentor program.
  6. Must have strong written and oral skills, be able to communicate with parents and the community at large.
  7. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
  8. Experience with counseling related technology, educational planning software, and social media.

HIRING RANGE**: $62,772.00 - $103,094.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
