Maximum Salary: $87,235.54 annually

Basic Function:
Bakersfield College is seeking dedicated, experienced, and motivated individuals to provide leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise in continuing to move the program forward in innovative ways. As a full time faculty member at Bakersfield College, successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence.

The successful candidate will provide academic, vocational, athletic, and career counseling to all students and assist with coordination and implementation of the college's Student Success Plan and matriculation process.
Counselors provide the expertise, initiative and leadership to design solutions to help students successfully plan their educational or career goals and overcome any academic, vocational or personal barriers to their achieving those goals.

This assignment may include teaching courses and providing services at various locations, different times, and with different modalities. Bakersfield College offers college courses in the greater Bakersfield area, rural communities, correctional facilities and high schools using the following modalities: traditional, face-to-face, online and interactive broadcasts. Rural sites include Delano, McFarland, Wasco, Shafter, and Arvin. Understanding of the barriers students in these communities face will be key to providing adequate services. Travel to these sites will be frequent, and at times, the counselor will be required to travel to multiple sites on the same day. Courses and services provided at the rural sites will be offered in a high school or community building setting. Flexibility to travel and work at various sites throughout the week is important in this role.

Other duties include: participation in student recruitment and articulation, transfer programs; maintaining subject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; using computer and technology; assessment of program learning outcomes; collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

Education and Experience:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters in counseling, clinical psychology, rehabilitation counseling, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, human behavior, human services, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling.
Three years experience in education



OR The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions.

(NOTE: A license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to title 5, section 53410.1)



AND Two (2) years of occupations experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or academic disadvantages



AND A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.



Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.

Ability to assist students in establishing goals and appropriate educational plans.
Ability to identify special student needs
Ability to teach counseling or personal development courses, develop and conduct workshops relevant to student success.
Serve as liaison to community agencies and local employers.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to provide leadership in program and college initiatives.
Ability and willingness to participate effectively in college committee work and in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that support students and the college.
Community college counseling experience.
An understanding of the advantages and challenges of developing a quality counseling program in a rural community college with multiple sites.
Experience working with students in CTE, dual enrollment, career pathways, and early college programs.
Experience in curriculum development.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching personal development, counseling and other related areas.
Be or become certified to develop and teach courses online.



Salary Grade: Initial placement for all new faculty hires shall be Step 1, Class will range from 2-5 depending on earned degree.
