General Description
College of the Sequoias is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time, tenured-track Animal Science position in the Agriculture Division beginning August, 2018.

College of the Sequoias Community College District serves a diverse community of learners and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution. Job Duties
The preferred candidate will have experience teaching courses in Animal Science, Dairy, Sheep, Beef, and/or Swine Production, Veterinary Assisting, Animal Diseases and Sanitation, Farm Animal Biology, Dairy Nutrition, Livestock Animal Nutrition and/or Livestock/Meat/Dairy Evaluation. Additional courses may be added. Evening classes, weekend classes and/or classroom instruction at off-campus centers in nearby communities may be required.

The faculty member will work cooperatively with other faculty, staff and administrators to operate the District's Agriculture/Farm Laboratories within the Animal Science area (dairy, sheep, beef, equine, swine and vet assisting) and ensure the labs are functioning to support the animal science and related educational programs of the District.

The faculty member will work with industry advisories, be engaged in curriculum development and will be responsible for growing/maintaining program enrollment through such activities as student recruitment, serving as a club advisor and engaging with high school programs that are involved in the Animal Science pathway. Participation in the governance of the College by way of committee assignments is encouraged. Other responsibilities include maintenance of a required number of office hours to meet student needs, full participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equality which is respectful of diversity campus wide.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate must meet the following criteria. Must have a degree from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the Equivalent.
B.S. (M.S. Preferred) in Agriculture, Animal Science or Agriculture Education with specialization /background in Animal Science/Veterinary Assisting OR
The equivalent AND
Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
The Agriculture Department is looking for evidence of the following:
Teaching experience at the University, Community College, adult or secondary level with specific teaching related to Animal Science, Dairy Science, Vet Assisting or closely related.
Evidence of work experience in the animal/dairy industry with demonstrated experience in implementing breeding and nutrition programs for dairy, sheep, swine, or beef operations.
Combined set of experiences in budget and livestock management to demonstrate the ability to integrate a livestock educational program within the parameters of an educational institution in a cost-effective manner.
Demonstrated knowledge of sound pedagogy and adult teaching techniques that contribute to students' learning and engagement.
Evidence of strong computer skills with ability to learn and navigate software for curriculum, student learning outcomes, as well as instructional tools such as Canvas.
Ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention while successfully challenging a diverse student population.
Ability to implement contemporary pedagogical philosophies, methods and techniques, including multi-media, to develop and deliver instruction in classroom and lab settings.
Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modalities, such as web-based instruction, cooperative learning or integrated curricula.
Ability to work collaboratively with students and faculty.
Evidence of ability to take on leadership roles within the Ag Division as well as within the institution as a whole.
Experience in and/or commitment to working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomics, academic and disability backgrounds. The ability to recruit underrepresented students into the agriculture program is imperative (Diversity response will be completed as part of the application).
Evidence of the ability to address the needs of diverse and frequently underprepared student populations taking a wide range of college level courses.
Evidence of ability to enhance student development through organizations, clubs, events, judging teams, employer engagement and internships.
Expertise in strategies for recruitment of students to the Agriculture Division.
Experience in writing, using and measuring student learning outcome objectives within courses and programs.
Ability to work collaboratively toward development and implementation of Division goals that are mapped to District goals and objectives.
Ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, culture and experiences.
Engage in professional development around teaching improvement and/or animal science technical skills improvement.
Ability to create and/or engage in research or collaborative projects with industry, University partners or Community College partners around teaching and/or best practices within the Animal Science industry with the intent of increasing student opportunities in real-world experiences.
