About the College: Situated on Monterey Bay in the county of Santa Cruz, California, Cabrillo College is highly regarded for its success of transfer and career education, and currently serves over 11,400 students each semester. Cabrillo College transfers many of its students to three nearby universities - the University of California at Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and California State University at Monterey Bay. Examples of Duties

Conduct learning disability evaluations in accordance with the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) Learning Disabilities Eligibility and Services Model (LDESM), including administration of WAIS-IV and/or WJ-IV cognitive assessments AND WIAT-III and/or WJ-IV achievement assessments, scoring, interpretation, and explanation of results to students
Provide instruction and guidance to students in understanding learning disabilities and implementing study strategies that may facilitate improvements in academic achievement
Participate in professional development activities required to maintain up-to-date knowledge and clinical expertise in the administration of new and revised cognitive and achievement assessment instruments and their implementation in the LDESM model
Provide the student population with verifiable learning and other disabilities with disability counseling including: disability assessment, development of an Academic Accommodation Plan (AAP), arranging disability-related services, and coordination of accommodations with instructors
Facilitate referrals to other campus and community resources and/or programs.
Provide guidance and professional development for administrators, staff and faculty on Americans with Disabilities Act, as Amended (ADAAA), requirements and student disabilities
Participate in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

General Required Education and Experience:

Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff AND
Master's degree in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, speech language pathology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation counseling OR
Possess a lifetime California Community College Instructor credential in Learning Disabilities OR
*Equivalent

Discipline-Specific Requirements:

Minimum of 15 (fifteen) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of learning disabilities, to include:
- Training in adult cognitive assessment with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV and/or Woodcock-Johnson IV Tests of Cognitive Abilities, or the equivalent AND
- Training in adult achievement assessment with the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test-III (WIAT-III) and/or the Woodcock-Johnson IV Tests of Achievement, or the equivalent OR
Certificate with the California Community College's Learning Disabilities Eligibility and Services Model (LDESM) OR eligibility to participate in the LDESM training and become certified within six (6) months of starting this position.
Training in, and the ability to, administer and interpret cognitive tests, including the WAIS-IV and/or WJ-IV Cognitive, and achievement tests, including the WJ-IV-Achievement and/or the WIAT-III
Awareness of assistive technology and alternate media services for students with disabilities
Ability to provide professional outreach to faculty, campus department staff, high schools, community agencies and industry partners to support the success of students with disabilities
Maintain clear, timely and accurate contact and student progress records
Ability to develop curriculum and revisions including Student Services Learning Outcomes (SSLOs)
Participate in professional development activities such as department and campus committee work, faculty peer evaluations, staff meetings and the governance structure of the college in order to contribute and maintain currency regarding issues related to students with a disability
Professional outreach and ability to travel to area high schools, various college sites, and community agencies during the course of employment

Required Professional Expertise:

Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field
Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at community colleges, including effective use of technology
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide services or perform the duties effectively as described above
Demonstrated ability to communicate well with students of diverse academic, ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; gender identities, sexual orientations; and students with disabilities different ability statuses including physical, mental health, and learning disabilities
Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as Amended (ADA-AA) and California Title 5 as it applies to community college students with disabilities
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
Demonstrated responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices in the classroom
Demonstrated ability to reflect critically on institutional and teaching practices that aim to increase cultural responsiveness
Knowledge and understanding of the accountability and critical dimensions of equity and demonstrated ability in addressing issues of equity in the classroom and/or student services.

Desired Qualifications/Performance Expectations:

One (1) year of community college experience within the last three (3) years with a diverse student population
One (1) year experience in the evaluation of learning disabilities
Experience conducting learning disability evaluations with adults in community college following the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) Learning Disability Eligibility Services Model (LDESM)
Familiarity with record-keeping software and technology, including the Computer Assisted Recordkeeping and Scoring (CARS) system used by Learning Disability Specialists, and the Student Appointment Reservation System (SARS) for scheduling
Knowledge of, or willingness to explore, universal design and innovative teaching methodologies
Ability to utilize a variety of technology tools and online resources to effectively support students
Experience teaching diverse student populations
Successful online teaching experience
Knowledge of culturally-responsive pedagogical teaching techniques and effective ways for engaging students who are historically under-represented and under-served.

Additional Information

Starting Salary: $1,834 - $2,815 per teaching unit, per semester; salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the Associate Overload Academic Specialist Salary Schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $122 per unit is granted to eligible associate faculty. Assignments may be at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends; hours to be arranged.
