Applications are now being accepted for the position of Instructional Lab Technician / Biology at San Diego Miramar College. Located in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area of San Diego, Miramar College is one of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District. Work hours are Monday-Saturday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, with possible evening hours.

The successful candidate would have the following desirable Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated successful completion of biology related course work.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up, testing and preparing biology laboratory experiments for instructional use.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with handling and maintaining live plants, aquatic animals, microbes and preserved specimen.
  • Demonstrated experience with safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining laboratory records, and monitoring budget expenditures using computer software.
  • Demonstrated experience in working independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.



Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or related field. Experience in an instructional setting is desirable

Licenses:


Pay Information:
Range 24 ($4,028.92- $6,431.07) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule. New employees will begin on Step A ($4,028.92), Step B ($4,230.36) with 18 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience or up to Step C ($4,441.88) with 36 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience. For purposes of salary placement, 7.5 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of directly related coursework from a regularly accredited institution will be equivalent to one (1) year of job experience. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA. This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent Benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents. A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment.
